JMS III Fund of the Columbia Yacht Club-Legacy Foundation

James Miles Shepherd III, was an accomplished sailor, but it was his personality off the water that made him memorable. He tragically died while sailing in his home waters of Lake Michigan, on August 5, 2010.

Jamie loved sailing. While he learned many lessons on the water, he lived by the motto "You can't change the direction of the wind, but you can adjust the trim of your sails." His optimism was infectious, and he touched everyone he met with this positive attitude.

In memory of Jamie and the person that he was, the JMS Fund of the Columbia Legacy Foundation will strive to give under-privileged youth opportunities to sail, help improve the quality and safety of instruction, and allow for improvements in programs around the country. Your contribution will result in directly improving programs for youth to learn the same lessons Jamie did on the water, and be better people off the water.

The JMS Fund is a part of the Columbia Legacy Foundation with a focus on youth sailing. The Columbia Legacy Foundation has a broader goal of promoting the skills of seamanship, marine education, and sponsoring events for adults as well as youth.
